Often patients visiting a hospital for treatments are nervous about the procedures, especially if it requires surgery. At the Lambton Hospitals Group, the building of an addition to the current Norman Site will result in new, modern operating rooms. To provide further support for the skilled surgeons and nursing staff in their continual effort to heal their patients, the operating rooms will be equipped with modern, state of the art surgical technology.
This yearís Dream Home proceeds will be directed to purchasing new equipment for our surgical team. The current complement of surgeons and operating nurses continue to meet the needs of the local community by using the latest procedures that reduce post-operative pain and improve healing for their patients.
To further assist the surgical teamís efforts, the eight new spacious operating suites being built will be equipped with the latest technological equipment. From April 1, 2002 through March 31, 2003, the surgical team performed procedures on 2,410 out patient and 7,575 inpatients.
In addition to the recent purchase of patient monitoring systems, other new equipment for the operating rooms will include endoscopic and laprascopic surgical instrumentation which allows for minimal invasive surgery such as the removal of a gall bladder through four tiny incisions. New operating tables will be purchased which are more ergonomically designed for better patient comfort. The anesthetic gas machines will be upgraded. The most advanced lighting system will be installed in each operating suite. To provide the right information at the right time, the operating rooms will be linked to the diagnostic equipment (x-rays) through the computer picture archival communication system (PACS). All of these technological enhancements will further support the surgical team in their continual effort to provide optimum patient care.
